Common Grackle

Frames from video, below, show the bird flying downward out of a tree, and illustrate the delineation in color between head and body, and show the shape of the tail.

Common Grackle on a tree branch, notice its long bill pointed downward as it is about to fly down out of the tree

Common Grackle with wings spread as it flies downward out of the tree. Notice the greenish head compared to the brownish body, and the tapered shape of the tail.

Below is a short video clip of the Common Grackle flying downward out of a tree. There is just 1 Common Grackle, but the video shows it flying down 4 times, in slo mo.

This bird was with a large mixed flock of birds including Brewer's Blackbirds and Red-winged Blackbirds, and was about 25% larger than Brewer's Blackbirds, with much thicker, longer bill held in more upward position. Coloration on head and extending down into breast area was a dark greenish color, and was sharply delineated from coloration on rest of body, which was brownish-bronze color. Eyes were light yellow. Tail was not as long as a Great-tailed Grackle's tail, but was longer than a Brewer's Blackbird's tail, and was tapered at the end.
